Commemorative Dates

1 July — Madeira Regional Day

This regional holiday celebrates Madeira’s political autonomy and cultural identity. Festivities include official ceremonies, concerts and cultural activities across the island.

26 July — Grandparents’ Day (Dia dos Avós)

Celebrated throughout Portugal, this day honours grandparents and the important role they play in family life. Many families gather for meals or spend the day together.

Santa Isabel Festivities

3 – 19 July — Coimbra

Held in honour of Queen Saint Elizabeth, Coimbra Festivities 2026 take place from 3 to 19 July, featuring the city’s most ambitious programme to date, combining music, tradition, sports and entertainment. The main concerts are held at Praça da Canção and Jardim da Sereia, with free admission.

Ao Largo Festival

3-25 July — Lisbon

Held in the open-air square of Centro Cultural de Belém (CCB), Festival ao Largo presents free performances of opera, ballet and classical music, bringing some of Portugal’s leading cultural institutions together in the heart of Lisbon.

AgitÁgueda

4-26 July — Águeda

Known for its colourful Umbrella Sky Project, AgitÁgueda is a free entrance festival that transforms the town into a vibrant outdoor festival with concerts, art installations, street performances and creative workshops.

Canals Festival

15–19 July — Aveiro

Festival dos Canais celebrates art, music and innovation through concerts, exhibitions, multimedia installations and performances spread throughout Aveiro’s canals and public spaces.

Noites da Baía

15 July – 26 August — Setúbal

This summer festival is held in the courtyard of Casa da Baía in Setúbal and combines live music with regional wine tastings. Starting on 10 July 2026, the programme runs every Friday, throughout the summer.

MEO Marés

17–19 July — Leça da Palmeira, Matosinhos

One of Portugal’s largest music festivals, MEO Marés Vivas welcomes internationally renowned artists alongside Portuguese performers. This year’s festival lineup features names like Da Weasel, Seal, Ozuna and James.

Músicas do Mundo Festival (FMM)

17–25 July — Sines and Porto Covo

Recognised as one of Europe’s leading world music festivals, FMM connects artists from every continent in a unique program of concerts, held in historic venues and coastal settings.

Curtas Vila do Conde – International Film Festival

17–26 July — Vila do Conde

One of Portugal’s leading film festivals, Curtas Vila do Conde is a festival dedicated to short films from around the world. Exhibitions, workshops and talks with filmmakers are also part of the festival’s activities, making it a must-visit event for cinema enthusiasts.

Tavira Book Fair

17 July – 4 August — Tavira, Algarve

One of the Algarve’s most popular literary events, the Tavira Book Fair brings together authors, publishers and readers for book launches, talks, children’s activities and evening concerts in the city’s historic centre.

Vila do Conde Craft Fair

25 July – 9 August — Vila do Conde

One of Portugal’s largest craft fairs, this event showcases the work of hundreds of artisans, including traditional crafts, ceramics, textiles, jewelry and regional products, alongside live demonstrations and entertainment.
